Indlovukazi Women Empowerment

Image
Last week Friday, I was kindly invited by Indlovukazi Society to MC at their opening function. It was such an overwhelming feeling to see men and women gathered in a Women Empowerment Function, engaging on issues that affect women in Tertiary Institutions. The theme was Women and Education. Gracing us with her presence as guest speaker was Professor - Mrs. Songci an H.O.D at the Accounting Department who traced us down memory lane, and reminded us of what being a woman means. And how important it is to be an educated woman in the 21st century. Her last words "Women you are a multi-tasker, that is your role, embrace it and move on" were inspirational. From getting married at the age of 21, acquiring an accounting degree in record time - embarking on her Honours degree whilst pregnant with her first born, and still able to acquire her Honours degree in record time. Ready to concieve...

I have life within me, A purpose yet to flourish, I have a dream eager to manifest, A prince/ princess ready to take on life. I have life within me, Which I have the responsibility to map out the world to, And I am ready, To breast feed love, wisdom and integrity to this epitome of my existence. Ready to Concieve!  -ANDISWA MADIKANE Note: This one is dedicated to all the Mommies or soon to be Mommies. A child is an everlasting blessing. This piece was inspired by my girl Lauryn Hill's song to her unborn - titled To Zion!

My sister. My all!

I mothered, you mothered me, We parented each other, From infancy, Inexperienced we became each other’s bedtime stories. I was your, you were my lullaby; Our comfort bore from our whispers, During our whole night prayers, Your word, to my word, our promise was to hold on to each other. You parented me in all stages of my life, Through trauma, Rebellion; Your patience loyal-ed me to love you. I MOTHERED. YOU MOTHERED ME. WE PARENTED EACHOTHER. -ANDISWA MADIKANE HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO THIS TAG TEAM.

To a distant Mother!

Image
Years back, I was conceived, By a specie I now long to reach, Our bond amputated from your umbilical cord, You became a parent far from me to reach. Today is mother’s day, Not the day I was conceived, But a celebration of your enablement to conceive me, Woman you were crowned. For juggling the hassles of life, At the palm of your hand, And still raising a prize possession, A priceless pearl you groomed to be the lady she is today. Born far from you, God willed it to be so, For You birthed a lioness, A fox, One that like you was able to stand the test of time, Through you, life equipped me to stand on my own! To be a fighter, Stern physic, You built me not to break, Our distance made me your incarnation; A strong willed woman Our conversations are transmitted through prayer, Where I feel and see you more, In my prayers, And dream that one day the Lord will land me on your doorstep. So that we can revive our relationship.

Happy Mother's Day to all Mommies around the world!

When I stopped seeing my mother with the eyes of a child, I saw the woman who helped me give birth to myself.  ~Nancy Friday
